LeapFrog Design’s Estuary is a plant-powered greywater treatment system. On the outside, a modern planter box adds beauty to the landscape with native and ornamental plants; inside, plants and microbes clean greywater from sinks, showers, and washing machines for reuse in toilet flushing and irrigation.
First, lightly used greywater from laundry, sinks, baths, and showers is collected for treatment. Then, in the Smart Bench and Treatment Planter, plants and microbes absorb and break down contaminants, cleaning the water for reuse. Finally, cleaned water is ready for non-potable reuse in toilet flushing, irrigation, and other select applications.
DimensionsThe bench and planter modules are sized 48 in x 24 in x 22 in (LxWxH).
Each planter module can provide 50 gallons of clean, recycled water per day.
Over 10 years, the average household saves:
350,000 gallons of water,
$12,000 in water costs, and
13 tons of CO2 emissions.
MaterialsThe module walls are made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP). Plumbing components are made of PE, HDPE, PVC, and ABS. All other component materials per manufacturer specifications.
Power supply120 VAC, 20 Amp
Estimated power consumption±200 kWh/year
Average recycled water qualityThe Estuary system has been designed and tested to meet the NSF/ANSI 350 standard for residential greywater reuse:
CBOD5 < 10 mg/L
TSS < 10 mg/L
Turbidity < 5 NTU
E. coli < 14 MPN/100 mL
pH 6.0 – 9.0
Noise level+30 dB
LeapFrog Design offers an extended 3-year limited warranty for the Estuary greywater recycling system for residential applications.
Any wastewater treatment system can be affected by improper design or installation, lack of maintenance, or system abuse. Although all models of the LeapFrog Design Greywater Recycling System are carefully designed and constructed, it’s still important to pay strict attention to system design and installation instructions and to follow through with intelligent usage and regular maintenance.
This Limited Warranty shall be void if any of the following occur:
(a) installation of the LeapFrog System is not performed in accordance with the LeapFrog documentation, published by LeapFrog;
(b) components not provided or approved by LeapFrog in writing are used in the installation, maintenance, or repair of the LeapFrog System;
(c) settings or operation of pumps, metering devices, effluent distribution components, or other parts that can affect the integrity and proper functioning of the LeapFrog System are changed without authorization from LeapFrog, LeapFrog’s Representative, or an Authorized LeapFrog
(d) the LeapFrog System is not started-up in accordance with the instructions contained in the LeapFrog Operation and Maintenance Manual, published by LeapFrog; or
(e) the LeapFrog System is not operated or maintained in accordance with the instructions contained in the LeapFrog Operation and Maintenance Manual published by LeapFrog.
The full warranty is outlined in our order form.
Plants make the system more resilient.
The plants and microbes themselves work together to stabilize the system and recover from toxic chemicals.
Plants clean water better than mechanical or chemical methods.
In a plant-based system, plants and microorganisms absorb and break down contaminants in the water. No need for clog-prone filters, and no chemicals to add or refill.
Plants help people be their best.
